General Information
Hiliree is a family connection app that helps you build your family tree, connect with relatives, share memories, chat, call, schedule events, and preserve your family story across generations.
You can build a family tree, send handshake invites, chat and call family members, share Moments, create events, view the family map, and discover insights about your family. Features include: Family Tree, Handshake Invites, Chats, Voice & Video Calls, Moments, Events, Map View, Home Insights, and Privacy Settings.
Hiliree Insights are reflective family history and naming insights designed to spark curiosity, connection, and conversation within families. These insights may reference general name meaning, cultural context, naming traditions, historical interpretation, family patterns, and family storytelling themes. Hiliree Insights are not verified genealogy records, ancestry determinations, DNA analysis, legal documentation, or certified historical findings. Meanings and interpretations may vary across families, cultures, regions, and traditions.
Hiliree Insights are designed to encourage curiosity and conversation rather than provide definitive conclusions about a person or family. While many insights may reference widely known naming traditions, historical meanings, or family patterns, interpretations can vary between families, cultures, and regions. Users should treat them as conversation starters, not verified family records.
No. Hiliree is designed to help families connect, preserve memories, and explore family history experiences. Hiliree does not provide verified ancestry analysis, ethnic determination, DNA testing, legal identity verification, religious determination, or certified genealogy services.
Yes. Hiliree may use automated systems and technology-assisted processes to support personalization, recommendations, moderation, family insights, safety, and overall user experience improvements. These systems are designed to improve family connection and engagement. They are not used to make legal, financial, medical, employment, insurance, credit, housing, or similarly significant decisions about users.
Getting Started
Download Hiliree from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, open the app, and follow the sign-up/onboarding steps.
No. You do not need to pay a fee to create a Hiliree account.
You may add your name, birthday, profile photo, location, and other details you want your family to see. Adding complete information can help Hiliree organize your tree, improve family visibility, and provide more meaningful family insights. You can manage visibility through your privacy settings.
Family Tree
Start by adding yourself, then add your parents, siblings, spouse, children, and other relatives in the correct family relationship line.
Hiliree is designed to organize family relationships based on the relationship structure users choose to create within their family tree. Each person should be added in the correct relationship line, such as parent, sibling, spouse, child, or relative. For example, a parent should not be added as a sibling.
Hiliree automatically organizes siblings by age when birthdays are added.
No. Add the correct birthday, and Hiliree will help organize siblings in the proper age order.
Hiliree currently uses a family tree display style to help organize relationships visually within the tree structure. This layout is designed to make family relationships easier to view and understand.
Gender may help Hiliree organize certain tree display elements and family relationship views. Users should enter information respectfully and accurately based on what they know.
Adding Family Members
Add as much accurate information as possible including: Full name (helps identify the correct person), Birthday (helps with age order, birthdays, and insights), Gender (helps display the tree correctly), Current location (helps show where living relatives are), Pinned location (helps preserve places linked to deceased relatives), Death date (helps keep family history accurate), and Profile photo (makes the tree more personal and recognizable).
Yes. Hiliree allows you to add relatives who have passed away so your family history and legacy can be preserved.
You can pin a meaningful location, such as their hometown, final resting place, or another important family location.
Adding a death date helps Hiliree keep your family history accurate and provide better family timeline and legacy insights.
Yes. Users are encouraged to add information carefully and respectfully. If you are unsure about certain details, you may update them later as your family confirms more information.
Automatic Family Placeholders
Hiliree may automatically create placeholder family members to keep your tree structure complete and realistic.
After adding the new family member, open the automatically added spouse or parent profile and update their details including name, birthday, gender, location, photo, and death date if applicable.
If they are needed to keep the family structure accurate, you should update their details instead of removing them. This helps Hiliree keep your tree properly connected.
Hiliree may automatically add placeholder parents or a spouse to help complete the family structure. These placeholders can be edited with the correct details.
Connecting With Family Members
Add the family member to your tree, open their profile details, share the invite link with them, and ask them to accept the invite from their side. The connection is complete only after both sides accept.
A Handshake Invite is Hiliree's two-way connection process. Both users must accept the invite before they are officially connected.
This protects privacy, prevents wrong connections, and makes sure both people agree to the family connection.
No. You must first add the person to your family tree before you can share an invite link with them.
Yes. When they accept your invite, their Hiliree account can connect to the family profile you created for them.
Check the following: the person exists on your family tree, the person exists on your family tree, you shared the correct invite link, and if both sides accepted the Handshake Invite.
Unlinking, Deleting, and Removing Family Members
Unlinking disconnects the invited user's account from the family profile. Deleting removes the family member from your tree view.
No. Deleting a family member only removes them from your tree. It does not automatically unlink them if you already invited and connected with that user.
Unlink the user first, then delete the family member from your tree if you no longer want to see them.
Use Unlink only. This disconnects the invited user but keeps the person visible on your tree.
Use Delete. This removes the person from your tree view, but it does not unlink them if they were already connected.
If the person was invited and connected, unlinking first makes sure the account connection is removed before the profile is deleted from your tree.
Home Page & Family Insights
The Home page gives you quick access to family updates, birthdays, insights, important family activities, and family history prompts.

No. “Did You Know” cards are intended as Hiliree Insights and conversation starters. They may include general name meaning, cultural context, family patterns, historical interpretation, or storytelling prompts. They should not be treated as verified genealogy records, ancestry determinations, DNA analysis, legal documents, or certified historical findings.

Insights are designed to encourage curiosity and family conversation rather than provide definitive conclusions about a person or family.
Yes. You may react to or dismiss insights to help improve your experience and receive different types of content. A dislike or “show me something else” action helps Hiliree understand content preferences and does not mean the insight is false.
Insights may vary based on available family information, naming context, preferences, cultural references, interaction patterns, and personalization settings. Different families may also interpret names, traditions, and family stories differently.
The Life Chart gives you a visual summary of your family, including family size, living and deceased members, generations, ages, and other meaningful family patterns.
