General Information
Hiliree is a private family connection app that helps families build family trees, connect with relatives, preserve memories, communicate, organize events, explore family insights, and keep family stories connected across generations.
With Hiliree, you can build and organize your family tree, invite relatives to connect, and choose what level of access they have to your tree. You can chat, make voice and video calls, share photos, videos, memories, milestones, and family updates, and create events for gatherings, celebrations, meetings, or memorials. You can also view family locations when permission is given, explore helpful family insights such as birthdays and family-history connections, control the privacy of sensitive information, and create your own separate family tree even if you are already connected to another relative’s tree.
Hiliree Insights are family-history, naming, relationship, and family-context experiences designed to spark curiosity, storytelling, connection, and conversation within families. Insights may include general information about names, cultural context, naming traditions, family patterns, historical interpretation, milestones, and family storytelling themes.
Hiliree Insights are intended to encourage curiosity and family conversation rather than provide definitive conclusions about a person or family. Meanings, traditions, historical interpretations, and family context can differ across cultures, communities, regions, and individual families. Users should treat Hiliree Insights as conversation starters rather than verified family records.
Not necessarily. “Did You Know” cards are part of Hiliree Insights and may include naming context, cultural references, family patterns, historical interpretations, milestones, or storytelling prompts. They should not be treated as: • Verified genealogy records. • DNA analysis. • Ancestry determinations. • Legal records. • Certified historical findings. • Medical or psychological conclusions. • Religious or ethnic determinations.
No. Hiliree does not provide: • DNA testing. • Verified ancestry analysis. • Ethnicity determination. • Religious determination. • Legal identity verification. • Biological relationship verification. • Certified genealogy services. Hiliree is designed to help families organize and explore information that they choose to add to the Service.
Hiliree Insights may reflect information available within your Hiliree experience, including information you or your family have provided, family-tree relationships, profile details, family context, preferences, and your interactions with available features. The amount and type of information available may affect the Insights shown to you.
Yes. Where available, you may react to, dismiss, or request different content. Your feedback helps Hiliree better understand the types of family experiences you prefer.
Insights may differ because users and families have different: • Family-tree information. • Relationships. • Names. • Birthdays. • Locations. • Family history. • Preferences. • Available family context. Different families may also interpret names, traditions, and family stories differently.
Getting Started
Download Hiliree from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, open the app, and follow the account-registration steps.
No. Creating a Hiliree account does not currently require a subscription fee. Certain optional or future features may be subject to separate pricing where clearly disclosed.
Depending on available features, you may add information such as: • Name. • Birthday. • Profile photo. • Location. • Contact information. • Other family or profile details. You should only provide information you are comfortable storing within Hiliree and should review your privacy settings to control its visibility.
Family Tree
Start with yourself and add relatives according to their family relationships. You may add: • Parents. • Siblings. • Spouse or partner where applicable. • Children. • Grandparents. • Other relatives supported by Hiliree.
The user who creates and manages a family tree retains control of that tree, subject to Hiliree’s Terms of Service and applicable law. Inviting another family member to participate in your tree does not by itself transfer ownership of the tree.
No. A family member may be invited and connected without becoming an owner of the originating tree. Their access depends on the permissions assigned to them.
Hiliree may allow the tree owner to assign one of the following access levels: No Access The connected user does not receive access to the applicable family-tree information beyond information otherwise available to them. View Only The connected user can view family-tree information they are permitted to see but cannot edit the applicable tree. Edit The connected user can add or modify permitted family-tree information, subject to Hiliree’s privacy controls, Service rules, and the permissions assigned by the tree owner.
No. Edit permission allows a user to make permitted changes. It does not by itself transfer ownership of the originating family tree.
Where available, tree owners can manage the access permissions assigned to invited or connected family members. Changes to access do not necessarily affect the other person’s independent Hiliree account or any separate family tree they maintain.
Yes. Being invited to or connected with another person’s family tree does not prevent you from creating and managing your own independent family tree.
Yes. Different users may maintain separate family trees that contain some of the same relatives or relationships. Each tree remains subject to its own: • Ownership. • Permissions. • Privacy settings. • User-contributed information. Connecting with another user does not automatically merge your family trees.
Family Relationships
Hiliree organizes family-tree information according to the relationships users create. Family members should be added using the correct relationship, such as: • Parent. • Sibling. • Spouse. • Child. • Other supported family relationship. Accurate relationships help Hiliree display and organize the family structure correctly.
Where birthday information is available, Hiliree may use age information to help organize siblings in age order.
Usually not. Adding accurate birthday information where available may help Hiliree organize siblings properly.
Hiliree may display different family lines in different positions to make relationships easier to understand visually. The visual location of a person within the tree does not change their ownership, privacy, or access rights.
Where applicable, gender information may help Hiliree organize certain relationship labels, family-tree structures, or display elements. Users should provide information respectfully and based on information they reasonably believe to be accurate.
Adding Family Members
You can add information such as a family member’s full name, birthday, gender, profile photo, location, and, where applicable, date of death or a meaningful pinned location. This information helps organize your family tree, recognize relatives, keep track of birthdays and family history, and preserve important places connected to loved ones. Location details for living relatives are subject to privacy settings. Only add information that is appropriate, respectful, and lawful to share.
Yes. A family-tree profile may represent a person who does not currently have a Hiliree account. Creating a profile for someone does not create a Hiliree account on their behalf.
Yes. Hiliree allows families to preserve information about relatives who have passed away.
You may choose a meaningful family location, such as: • Hometown. • Birthplace. • Final resting place. • Important family location. Users should use locations respectfully and accurately.
A death date can help organize: • Family timelines. • Family history. • Generational information. • Legacy and milestone experiences.
Yes. Family information should be added carefully. If information is uncertain, users are encouraged to confirm it with family members and update it when better information becomes available.
Automatic Family Placeholders
Hiliree may automatically create a placeholder spouse or parent when it is needed to keep your family tree properly connected. For example, if you add a child and another parent is needed to complete the parent-child relationship, Hiliree may create a spouse or parent placeholder. If you add a sibling without existing parents in the tree, Hiliree may create parent placeholders to show the shared-parent relationship. These placeholders help maintain the correct family structure and can be updated when more information becomes available.
No. A placeholder is a family-tree profile and does not mean the represented person has created or agreed to a Hiliree account.
Where appropriate, update the placeholder with accurate information. You may be able to update: • Name. • Birthday. • Gender. • Location. • Photo. • Death date. • Other supported profile details.
Where a placeholder is necessary to preserve the family relationship structure, updating it may be preferable to removing it.
Connecting With Family Members
Generally: 1. Add the family member to your family tree. 2. Open their profile. 3. Use the available invitation option. 4. Share or send the invitation. 5. The invited user accepts the connection from their side. The connection is completed only after the required acceptance process is completed.
A Handshake Invite is Hiliree’s mutual family-connection process. It is designed so that a family relationship connection between eligible Hiliree accounts is not completed solely by one user.
Mutual acceptance helps: • Protect user privacy. • Reduce incorrect connections. • Confirm that both accounts agree to the connection. • Give users more control over their family network.
No. A Handshake connection and family-tree access are separate. After connecting, a user’s access to a particular tree remains subject to: • The permissions assigned by the tree owner. • Applicable privacy settings. • Hiliree’s policies.
No. A Handshake establishes the applicable connection between accounts. It does not automatically transfer ownership of a family tree.
Yes. Where supported, the person may connect their Hiliree account with the family profile representing them through the invitation and acceptance process.
Where Hiliree’s current invitation process requires the person to first exist within your family tree, you must add the family profile before initiating the Handshake Invite.
Unlinking, Deleting, and Removing Family Members
Unlink disconnects the family member’s Hiliree account from the profile in your family tree. After unlinking, the profile remains in your tree, but it is no longer connected to that person’s Hiliree account. Delete Family Member removes the family member’s profile from your tree entirely.
No. If the family profile is already connected to another user, deleting the profile from your tree does not necessarily terminate the account connection.
Where applicable: 1. Unlink the connected account. 2. Delete the family profile from your tree if you also want the profile removed.
Use the applicable Unlink or connection-control option. This may disconnect the account while leaving the family profile within your tree.
Use Delete Family Member. This removes that profile from your tree but may not terminate an existing account connection.
No. Unlinking affects the connection between accounts or profiles. It does not delete the other user’s Hiliree account or any separate family tree they own.
Home Page & Family Information
Depending on your family information and available features, Home may include: • Family updates. • Birthdays. • Milestones. • Hiliree Insights. • Family activity. • Family-history prompts. • Events and reminders.
The Life Chart provides a visual summary of family information that may include: • Family size. • Living and deceased relatives. • Generations. • Age information. • Other family patterns. Its accuracy depends on the information available within the family tree.
Birthday cards help families remember and celebrate relatives’ birthdays where birthday information is available and permitted to be shown.
The available experience may be more limited when: • Your family tree contains only a few people. • Important details are missing. • Birthdays are unavailable. • Relationships are incomplete. • There is limited family context available. Adding accurate family information may improve the family experience.
Moments & Memories
Moments allow families to share updates, memories, milestones, photos, videos, and other family content.
Appropriate Moments may include: • Birthday wishes. • Family celebrations. • Announcements. • Memorials. • Funeral memories. • Milestones. • Photos. • Videos. • General family updates. Content must comply with Hiliree’s Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, Child Safety Standards, and applicable law.
Visibility depends on the applicable: • Family connections. • Sharing choices. • Privacy settings. • Service functionality. Users should review their settings before sharing sensitive family content.
Yes. Users should respect the privacy, dignity, consent, and preferences of others before sharing: • Photos. • Videos. • Locations. • Contact information. • Sensitive family stories. • Private personal details. Extra care should be taken when content involves children or minors.
Chats, Voice & Video Calls
Open Chats and select an eligible connected family member using the available chat controls. Messaging may require an accepted family connection.
Yes, where available. Open the relevant conversation or family connection and select the voice or video call option.
Hiliree uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to help protect user communications and account information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their accounts, devices, and login credentials and should report suspicious activity to Hiliree.
Possible reasons include: • The family connection has not been completed. • The user has been unlinked or restricted. • Required device permissions are disabled. • Internet connectivity is unavailable. • The feature is temporarily unavailable.
If you’re having trouble with chat, voice, or video, first make sure your device has a stable internet connection. For voice and video calls, check that Hiliree has permission to access your microphone and camera. If the issue continues, close and reopen Hiliree, restart your device, and make sure you’re using the latest version of the app. If none of these steps resolves the problem, contact Hiliree Support.
Events & Meetings
Open Events or the applicable Home option, select Create Event, enter the event details, and invite eligible family members.
Examples include: • Birthdays. • Family meetings. • Reunions. • Celebrations. • Memorials. • Funerals. • General family gatherings.
Yes, where available. Invited family members can respond to event invitations.
Hiliree supports family communication through available voice and video features.
Map & Location
Map View helps families see location information associated with relatives, subject to the information provided and the privacy settings applicable to that family tree.
Hiliree’s family location features should not be assumed to provide continuous or real-time tracking unless a particular feature expressly says otherwise. Map View reflects location information made available through the applicable Hiliree feature.
Yes. Hiliree provides privacy controls for location information.
Yes, where the applicable privacy control is enabled. Location visibility can be restricted through Hiliree’s privacy settings
Yes. Where Family-Level Privacy is enabled for applicable information, location information across people represented within that family tree may be blurred or restricted according to the selected settings.
Yes. You may pin an appropriate meaningful location such as a hometown, resting place, or other significant family location.
Yes. Location information can be sensitive, particularly where children or minors are involved. Avoid unnecessarily sharing: • Home addresses. • School locations. • Daily routines. • Precise locations. • Other information that could create a safety or privacy risk.
Privacy Settings
Hiliree provides privacy controls designed to help users manage the visibility of sensitive family information. Depending on available functionality, these controls may include: • Birthday visibility. • Location visibility. • Contact-information visibility. • User-Level Privacy. • Family-Level Privacy. • Family-tree access permissions.
User-Level Privacy controls information relating specifically to you. For example, you may use your privacy settings to restrict the visibility of your own: • Birthday. • Location. • Contact information.
Family-Level Privacy allows applicable privacy restrictions to be applied across the people represented within a particular family tree. When enabled, applicable information such as: • Birthdays. • Locations. • Contact information. may be blurred or restricted across that family tree.
They control different things. Tree permissions determine whether another user has: • No Access. • View Only access. • Edit access. Privacy settings determine whether particular information is visible within the permitted experience. A user may therefore be connected to you and still have limited or no access to your family tree.
Yes. Family-Level Privacy is designed to provide broader privacy protection across the applicable family tree. Enabling a Family-Level restriction may make applicable information less visible across that tree even where other settings might otherwise permit visibility.
No. A family relationship alone does not provide unrestricted rights to private information. Visibility remains subject to applicable permissions, privacy controls, and Hiliree policies.
Access depends on the permissions you assign and the applicable privacy settings. Being connected through a Handshake does not automatically provide full access to a tree.
Yes. You can grant available access permissions without transferring ownership of your family tree.
Yes. A user may maintain their own independently managed family tree even if they are connected to or represented within another relative’s tree.
No. Separate family trees remain separately managed unless Hiliree expressly provides a feature that changes that relationship.
Yes. Birthday visibility can be managed through applicable privacy settings.
Yes. Contact-information visibility can be managed through applicable privacy settings.
Yes. Location information can be restricted or blurred through applicable privacy controls.
Not necessarily. Changing visibility generally changes how the information is shown or made available within the applicable Hiliree experience. Deletion of personal information is handled separately under Hiliree’s account, content, and privacy controls.
Because Hiliree allows families to maintain separate trees, another family member may have independently created a family profile representing you. If information is inaccurate or creates a privacy concern, you may: • Contact the applicable family-tree owner where appropriate. • Use available reporting or privacy controls. • Contact Hiliree at privacy@hiliree.com for applicable privacy-rights requests.
Notifications
Notifications may include: • Handshake Invites. • Chats. • Calls. • Events. • Birthdays. • Moments. • Hiliree Insights. • Family updates. • Service or security notifications.
Yes. You can manage available notification settings within Hiliree and through your device settings. Certain security or account-related communications may still be sent where necessary.
Check: • Hiliree notification settings. • Device notification permissions. • Internet connectivity. • Battery or background-app restrictions. • Whether the app is up to date.
App Security
Yes, on supported devices where the feature is available. Depending on your device, this may include: • Face ID. • Touch ID. • Fingerprint authentication. • Other supported device-level biometric authentication.
Device biometric authentication is generally handled by the device operating system. Hiliree does not need to receive the underlying fingerprint or facial template merely to use device-supported biometric login. Please review your device manufacturer’s privacy settings for additional information.
Hiliree uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal and family information. These may include measures relating to: • Account authentication. • Access controls. • Secure data transmission. • Infrastructure security. • Operational controls. • Monitoring and abuse prevention. No online system can guarantee complete security.
Yes. Hiliree may use service providers supporting functions such as: • Hosting. • Storage. • Communications. • Analytics. • App performance. • Authentication. • Security. • Notifications. • Support. • Payments where applicable. • Other operational functionality.
No. Hiliree does not sell your personal information. Hiliree may use trusted service providers to support functions such as hosting, communications, security, analytics, authentication, maps, storage, and app operations. These providers may process limited information as necessary to provide their services to Hiliree, but your information is not provided to them for advertising purposes.
No. Hiliree does not use your personal information, family information, photos, conversations, Family Tree information, locations, Moments, or other User Content for third-party advertising or targeted advertising. Hiliree does not provide your information to advertisers to build advertising profiles or target you with advertisements.
Cookies & Similar Technologies
Yes. Depending on whether you use the Hiliree website or mobile application, Hiliree may use technologies such as: • Browser cookies. • Local storage. • SDKs. • Authentication tokens. • Analytics technologies. • Crash and diagnostic tools. • Push-notification technologies. • Similar technologies. These may support: • Service functionality. • Authentication. • Security. • Preferences. • Performance. • Diagnostics. • Personalization. • Reliability. For more information, review Hiliree’s Cookies and Similar Technologies Policy.
Where a cookie or privacy preference tool is available, you can use it to manage optional technologies. You may also use applicable browser or device privacy settings.
Disabling essential technologies may prevent parts of the Service from operating. Disabling optional technologies may affect certain analytics, personalization, or preference-based experiences.
No. Cookie preferences and family privacy controls serve different purposes. Cookie preferences relate primarily to website, app, device, analytics, and similar technologies. Family privacy settings govern the visibility of information within Hiliree, such as applicable: • Birthdays. • Locations. • Contact information. • Family-tree information.
Reporting, Blocking & Safety
Yes. Users may report concerns involving: • Profiles. • Family-tree content. • Messages. • Moments. • Photos or videos. • Hiliree Insights. • Impersonation. • Harassment. • Unsafe communications. • Privacy concerns. • Child-safety concerns. • Other violations of Hiliree policies. Use available in-app reporting tools where provided. You may also contact support@hiliree.com. For child-safety concerns, contact safety@hiliree.com.
Where blocking or restriction controls are available, users should use them to prevent unwanted interactions. Because Hiliree is a family-based platform, blocking, unlinking, deleting a family profile, changing tree access, and changing privacy settings may have different effects. Select the control that best addresses your concern.
Use available reporting, blocking, restriction, unlinking, or privacy controls and report the account or content to Hiliree. Do not share passwords, verification codes, or sensitive information with someone claiming to represent Hiliree unless you have verified the communication.
Contact local emergency services or law enforcement. Hiliree’s reporting tools are not a substitute for emergency services.
Children & Minors
Hiliree account eligibility is governed by the Terms of Service. Users generally must be at least 13 years old, or meet any higher minimum age required by applicable law. Users under 18 or under the applicable age of majority may require permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Yes. A family member may create an appropriate family-tree profile representing a child or minor. That does not mean the child has created or agreed to a Hiliree account.
Users should only add information about minors where they have appropriate authority, permission, family context, or another lawful basis. Extra care should be taken with: • Precise location. • Contact information. • School information. • Photos and videos. • Sensitive personal information. • Other information that could expose a child to privacy or safety risks.
Hiliree prohibits child sexual abuse material, sexual exploitation, grooming, sextortion, trafficking, and other harmful conduct involving minors. Please review Hiliree’s Child Safety Standards for more information.
Installation & Updates
Search for Hiliree in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the official Hiliree application.
Open your device’s app store, locate Hiliree, and select Update where a newer version is available.
Updates may include: • Security improvements. • Bug fixes. • Performance improvements. • New features. • Reliability improvements. • Design changes.
Account & Data Deletion
Use the Delete Account option available through Hiliree Settings and complete the confirmation steps. Where required, Hiliree may also provide an external account-deletion mechanism.
Hiliree will process the account-deletion request in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable law. Information associated with your account may be deleted or de-identified, subject to limited retention where permitted or required for purposes such as: • Legal compliance. • Security. • Fraud prevention. • Dispute resolution. • Safety. • Backup processes. • Enforcement. Information independently created or maintained by another family-tree owner may not necessarily be deleted solely because you delete your own Hiliree account.
No. These are different actions. Delete Account affects your Hiliree account. Delete Family Member removes a family profile from a particular family tree. Unlink disconnects an applicable connected Hiliree account from the family profile.
Not necessarily. Another family member may have independently created information about you within their own family tree. Applicable privacy rights may still allow you to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or other action depending on your jurisdiction and the circumstances. Contact privacy@hiliree.com for privacy-rights requests.
Yes, subject to applicable law and verification requirements. Use available privacy controls or contact: privacy@hiliree.com
Troubleshooting
Check that: • Family members are assigned to the correct relationships. • Required relationship information is complete. • Important profile details are accurate. • You are using the latest version of Hiliree.
Check the birthday information associated with the sibling profiles. Where birthday information is available, Hiliree may use it to help organize siblings by age.
Hiliree may create placeholder family profiles to preserve the correct family structure when additional parent or spouse relationships are needed.
The available Hiliree Insights may depend on the amount of appropriate family information available. Completing accurate information such as names, relationships, birthdays, and other relevant family details may improve the experience.
Try: 1. Confirming your internet connection. 2. Closing and reopening Hiliree. 3. Installing the latest app version. 4. Restarting your device. 5. Reviewing required device permissions. 6. Contacting Hiliree Support if the problem continues.
